ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will try and break a frustrating three-game losing streak when the Bulldogs host Big South Conference leader Winthrop at Greenwood Field on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. Admission is free. The match can be seen via video-streaming for a small fee on the EDGE at www.bigsouthsports.com.
UNC Asheville (4-7-2, 2-3-0 BSC) has improved greatly from last season but has suffered three frustrating one-goal losses in their last three matches. The Bulldogs fell at Coastal Carolina Wednesday afternoon, 1-0.
Asheville will need to shake those losses off as it gets ready to face a talented Winthrop squad. The Eagles are in first place in the Big South with an 11-3 overall record and 4-0 mark in league play.
“We're playing good soccer but we need to take things up a notch,” stated Asheville coach Steve Cornish. “Our lads are battling but we need to score goals when we have opportunities. We need to find a way to get the job done.
“It will not be easy against Winthrop,” added Cornish. “Winthrop is a talented club that has found a way to get results this season. We need to put the other matches behind us and get ready to face Winthrop.”
