CHARLOTTE, N.C.?UNC Asheville's Cindi Miller and Raquel Miotto have each earned Big South honors this week. Miller was named the New Balance Freshman of the Week while Miotto earned her second consecutive Libero of the Week nod.
Miller, an outside hitter from Decatur, Ill., helped lead Asheville (10-11, 2-6 Big South) to a 2-1 record last week as she notched double-figure kills in all three matches. She got her week started with 11 kills and three aces in Asheville's 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb on Oct. 14. Three days later against Charleston Southern, Miller recorded 12 kills as the Bulldogs downed the Lady Bucs, 3-2. She closed her week out with a season-high 16 kills against Coastal Carolina on Oct. 18. On the defensive side, Miller posted 11 digs and four blocks in the three-match span. The honor marks her first Freshman of the Week accolade.
Miotto, a junior from Aruja, Brazil, had one of the finest week's a defensive player can have as she recorded 102 digs (7.29 digs per set) in three matches for the Bulldogs. She started her week off with 20 digs at Gardner-Webb and three days later bested that with a career high 47 digs against Charleston Southern. Miotto collected 35 digs against Coastal Carolina, finishing the week with two consecutive 30-plus dig matches. She also added to the Bulldog attack as she posted five kills, three aces and 15 assists. Miotto is now second all-time in career digs at Asheville as she moved past Gina Golkiewicz (1990-92). She is 465 digs from the all-time mark held by Elissa Steffen (1991-94). The nod marks her third honor this season.
Coastal Carolina's Kelsey Kimes was named the Choice Hotels Player of the Week by the Big South.
