Cross Country to Compete in Blue Ridge Open

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Boone today for the Blue Ridge Open.

 

The 34 team field is strong as it includes several nationally and regionally ranked programs.

 

The men's race will be highlighted by 15th nationally ranked N.C. State.  Duke, North Carolina, Charlotte, and Clemson are all ranked in the top-15 of the Southeast Region.

 

On the women's side, N.C. State (18th) and Duke (28th) are both nationally ranked.  North Carolina, Clemson, Charlotte, and Big South member Coastal Carolina are in the top-15 of the Southeast Region.

 

The Bulldogs last competed on Oct. 4 at the Greater Louisville Open.

 

The men's team finished 28th in a tough men's field that had approximately 300 competitors.

 

On the women's side, Emma Bussard continued her successful freshman campaign with a 10th place finish in the women's blue race that helped the Bulldogs secure a ninth place team finish.

 

Today's meet will take place at the Don Kennedy Trails at the State Farm Complex on the Appalachian State campus.

 

The women's 5K gold race will start at 3:00 p.m. and will be followed by the men's 8K gold race at 3:45.

 

Results from today's meet will be posted on www.uncabulldogs.com at the conclusion of the final race.
