ASHEVILLE, N.C.? The UNC Asheville volleyball team will host its second annual DIG PINK match Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m., as it hosts Coastal Carolina at the Justice Center. DIG PINK is a National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally during the month of October with the mission to increase the awareness of breast cancer throughout the community and raise funds to help eradicate the disease.

UNC Asheville is partnering with the Side-Out Foundation, a national breast cancer organization located in Washington D.C. Over 760 teams, both high school and college, are participating in DIG PINK throughout the month of October.

This is the second year that the Bulldogs have hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness match and the first time they have partnered with the Side-Out Foundation. Last season, Asheville wore pink socks as a part of its uniform for back-to-back matches against Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina.

This year the Bulldogs will once again wear pink as a part of the uniform. All attendees to the match are encouraged to wear pink in support of the fight against breast cancer.

UNC Asheville and the Side-Out Foundation have set up a web site for on-line donations to be collected prior to the match. Fans can give their support by going to http://www.sideoutvolleyball.org/mainevent/minievent/UNCAshevillevsC/ Donations will also be collected at the match. The Bulldogs and Chanticleers hope to raise $500 for breast cancer research.
