ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville Volleyball team will return to the court this weekend when it travels to the Chattanooga Invitational at UT-Chattanooga on Friday and Saturday.

The Bulldogs (1-5) open the tournament against a very strong Missouri State team on Friday at 5 p.m. Asheville plays two matches on Saturday as it will battle Chattanooga at 12:30 p.m. before finishing up with Tennessee Tech at 3 p.m.

Julie Torbett's club is off to a frustrating start but the Bulldogs were able to notch their first win of the season last Saturday when they outlasted USC Upstate in four games.

“We're improving but we still have a lot of work to do,” stated Torbett. “We need to play with more consistency. We're close to being a good team but we're just not there yet.”

The Bulldogs have a tough weekend ahead of them, according to Torbett.

Missouri State is an outstanding team,” declared Torbett. “Chattanooga is tough to beat at home and Tennessee Tech has a good program. We have our work cut out for this weekend.

“However, playing these teams will make us better,” added Torbett.

A bright spot for Asheville in the early going has been the play of freshman Kelsey Benorden. She made the all-tournament team at UNC Asheville last weekend and leads the team in kills (3.29). Benorden produced two double-doubles in last week's tourney.
