ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's soccer team will play home matches on Saturday and Sunday and celebrate Alumni Weekend.

The Bulldog men's soccer team hosts Campbell Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., while the women's team takes on Chattanooga Sunday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. The matches at Greenwood Field are both free of charge.

The Alumni Weekend starts Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Field with the Alumni Game as former player from both the men's and women's programs clean off their cleats and play two 20-minute halves. There will be a lunch following the match.

The men's soccer team faces a tough challenge Saturday against Campbell. The Bulldogs (1-3-0) face a Camel squad that is 3-2-0 and has been ranked in the South Region this year.  Campbell played at national power Virginia Wednesday and lost a close 2-1 decision.

UNC Asheville fell to Elon Wednesday afternoon, 2-0 as the Phoenix scored two goals in the first half and held on from there to record the victory. The Campbell match is the second of five straight home matches for the Bulldogs.

“We've had a tough schedule in the first part of the season and it certainly doesn't get any easier for our lads against Campbell,” commented UNC Asheville head coach Steve Cornish. “Campbell played a stellar match at Virginia and posted some fine results in the first part of the year. Once again we're going to have to at our best to have any chance at a result on Saturday.”

Asheville is being led in scoring by junior forward Scott Szymanksi with two goals. Junior midfielder Alex Morrow has been named to two all-tournament teams in the first part of the year.

The women's soccer teams hopes to break a frustrating six-game losing streak Sunday against Chattanooga. The Lady Mocs are 0-3-1 on the season pending a game at High Point Friday night. Asheville fell to Southern Conference power Furman, 5-1 Thursday afternoon.

“We just need to put 90 minutes of good soccer together,” stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. “We've played well in parts of all of our matches but simply haven't been consistent enough. We're going to try again Sunday afternoon.”

The Bulldogs are being led in scoring by senior Joy Haynes. Haynes tallied her team-leading third goal of the year on Thursday against Furman. Junior Robyn Busha has two goals and an assist.
