ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's soccer team finally gets a chance to play at home when the Bulldogs host Elon at Greenwood Field Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Admission is free and the match will be video-streamed on the Bulldogs web-site, www.uncabulldogs.com.

The Bulldogs are 1-2 on the young season after a 5-0 loss against #22 Furman Sunday afternoon. Asheville has competed in two tournaments this year at Kentucky and at Wofford. The Bulldogs were scheduled to play at Wofford last Friday night but that match got postponed due to lightning in the Spartanburg area. The teams will make the match up on Oct. 15.

Steve Cornish's club faces a tough foe in Elon. The Phoenix has risen under third-year coach Darren Powell and become a force in the Southern Conference. Elon enters Wednesday's match with a 2-2-1 overall record and posted impressive victories over High Point and Mount St. Mary's.

“We're so glad to be playing a home match,” explained Cornish. “We start a five-game homestand with Elon and that's the most we've ever been at home.

“Elon presents a great challenge for our lads,” added Cornish. “They have a very good team returning and do a lot of things quite well. We will have to be at our best to try and get a result against a well-coached Elon squad.”

The Bulldogs have been enjoying some great play from junior midfielder Alex Morrow. Morrow has been an all-tournament selection in both tournaments UNC Asheville has participated in this season. Junior Scott Szymanski leads the Bulldogs in scoring with two goals.

Asheville's homestand continues on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Campbell at Greenwood Field starting at 3 p.m.
