Bulldogs Fall Short Against Tar Heels in Final Exhibition

MORGANTON, N.C. - No. 16 North Carolina pulled out a 3-1 win over UNC Asheville at the Catawba River Soccer Complex Saturday night.
Scott Campbell, Ryan Johnson and Michael Callahan provided the scoring for the Tar Heels, who scored seven goals in their two exhibition matches.
Scott Szymanski scored UNC Asheville only goal of the night in the first half. The Bulldogs went 1-2 in its exhibition season tallying five times in the three matches. The goal was Szymanski's second of the preseason.
Campbell put UNC on the board on a penalty kick after Callahan was taken down in the box, and Johnson followed with the second Tar Heel goal off a Cameron Brown corner. Callahan closed the scoring for Carolina off an assist from Eddie Ababio.
Tyler Deric and Chris Litchford split time in goal for Chapel Hill. Deric allowed the Bulldogs' lone goal in the first half.
The Bulldogs open the regular season in Lexington, Ky., as a part of the University of Kentucky Tournament. Asheville will face IUPUI on Friday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m.
