MORGANTON, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team plays its final exhibition game Saturday against 16th-ranked UNC Chapel Hill at the Catawba River Soccer Complex starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $4 each and will go on sale at approximately 5 p.m.

The Bulldogs are 1-1 in their exhibition slate but face a strong challenge against the Tar Heels. UNC is doing its pre-season training in Morganton and is hosting the exhibition game against the Bulldogs along with the Burke Soccer Association.

Veteran UNC Asheville coach Steve Cornish likes what he sees from his team in their first two matches but some injuries have slowed the Bulldogs down a bit in the preseason.

"We've had a couple of nagging injuries and some lads haven't been able to play," commented Cornish. "We won't be as deep as I would like to be against Carolina on Saturday night."

Cornish knows the Tar Heels will be a formidable opponent Saturday.

"UNC has an excellent team back and will be among the teams that could win a national championship," stated Cornish. "Obviously, it will be difficult to get a result against a team of this caliber but we're looking forward to playing them.

"I know the folks at the Burke Soccer Association have worked hard to get this event going, and we're proud to be a part of it," added Cornish. "They expect a big crowd and it will be fun to play in that kind of atmosphere."

Bulldog fans who want to go to the match on Saturday can get there by following these directions. Take I-40 East and get off at Exit 100 (Jamestown). Make a left off the exit and drive approximately two miles to Carbon City Road. Make a right on Carbon City Road and make left at Greenlee Ford Road. Greenlee Ford Road takes you straight to the Catawba River Soccer Complex.

UNC Asheville opens the 2007 season at the Kentucky Invitational against IUPUI on Aug. 31 starting at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs home opener is on Sept. 19 against Elon.
