CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team is a preseason pick to finish in fifth place in the Big South Conference according to the league's preseason poll that was announced on Monday. The poll was conducted the league's head coaches and Sports Information Directors.

Defending champion Winthrop earned the favorite's role, followed by Coastal Carolina, Radford and Liberty. UNC Asheville was voted in front of High Point and VMI.

The panel voted Eagle senior forward Saidi Isaac as the League's Preseason Player of the Year. Junior defender Edwin Wotortsi of UNC Asheville was nominated for the award.

"I'm looking forward to this season because I think our lads can make a run at finishing a bit higher than where we were picked," stated UNC Asheville head coach Steve Cornish. "However, I can see why we were picked to finish fifth. Our league is very, very good and every one will have a hard time getting a result this season."

The Bulldogs begin training on Tuesday and open exhibition play at Davidson Sunday afternoon. UNC Asheville plays an exhibition game at Greenwood Field on Aug. 22 starting at 5 p.m. Admission will be free.
