ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville volleyball coach Julie Torbett has announced her captains for the 2007 season. Torbett has announced that senior blocker Ashley Wrightenberry and junior middle blocker Heather Burns will serve as captains for the 2007 Bulldogs.
"We expect great leadership from Ashley and Heather," stated Torbett. "Ashley is a player who has worked hard and become a key player for our program. Heather has worked hard, as well and we expect her to be a contributor both on and off the floor this season."
UNC Asheville has advanced to three of the last four Big South Conference championship matches. The Bulldogs had a 15-18 overall record last season but finished in second place with a 10-4 league record. Asheville has finished in the upper division of the league standings the past five years.
The Bulldogs open practice next month and will open the 2007 season at the Florida State Invitational (Aug. 24-25). Torbett's club will then host the UNC Asheville Invitational the next weekend (Aug. 31-Sept. 1). The Bulldogs first home match at Justice Center will be against Western Carolina on Aug. 31 starting at 7 p.m. Asheville will also play Kennesaw State and USC Upstate in the tournament.
