ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Former UNC Asheville volleyball player Talia Ogle was named assistant volleyball coach at the University of Texas Pan American this week. Ogle is the fourth former Bulldog volleyball player to go on to coach at the college level.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be here and have the opportunity to work alongside Coach (Angela) Hubbard," said Ogle. "We have tremendous talent here at UTPA in our outside hitters as well as defensive players so I believe that my strengths will be a good fit in the development of our student-athletes. I believe that Coach Hubbard has a great plan for the progression of the UTPA women's volleyball program, and I couldn't imagine a better beginning of my collegiate coaching career than here with the Lady Broncs."

"I'm very excited about the addition of Talia to our program. She is a young, passionate coach who loves the game. She comes from a very successful program, and I feel that she has a lot to bring to the table. She is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the game and will be a big part in the process of turning our program around," said UTPA head women's volleyball coach Angela Hubbard.

Ogle was a standout for the Bulldogs where she helped UNC Asheville reach the Big South Conference Championship Game during her senior campaign. A team captain that season, she finished third on the team in digs with 380 and concluded her career in a Bulldog uniform with 1,119 career digs.

As a junior with the Bulldogs, Ogle led the team with 477 digs, which was the ninth-highest total in the single-season at UNC-Asheville while ranking first on the squad with 39 service aces. She collected 379 kills that season, which ranked her second on the squad, while finishing sixth overall in the Big South Conference in digs per game.

Ogle was a member of the UNC Asheville Athletic Director's 3.0 Club in each semester for the Bulldogs and served as a member of SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee). On the court, she also gained valuable experience for her collegiate coaching career as she was a part of the summer camp coaching staff at the University of Tennessee, University of Alabama, Emory University and University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Prior to UNC Asheville, Ogle played at Gardner-Webb where she concluded the 2003 campaign with 137 kills and 262 digs that season. She competed in 99 games in her first season with the Runnin' Bulldogs en route to guiding Gardner-Webb to a berth in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship Game.

Ogle spent last season on Julie Torbett's coaching staff, Ogle was responsible for the development of the Bulldogs' outside hitters and defensive players on the court while handling several administrative areas for the UNC Asheville program. The former Bulldog standout was responsible for scheduling, equipment management, film exchange and travel arrangements while assisting in the development of practices and conditioning program.

Ogle joins Calley Geiger (The Citadel), Loralee Smith (Lewis University), and Leslie Whitfield-Gehris (Montreat) as former Bulldog players who are now coaching.
