Track and Field Enjoys Great Meet at Duke & North Carolina A&T

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field squad participated in two meets this past weekend. The majority of both teams competed in the Duke Invitational on Friday and Saturday, while several others took part in the North Carolina A&T Classic on Saturday.
"Just about everyone who participated this weekend set a new personal high," said UNC Asheville coach Dean Duncan. "I was really pleased at how everyone worked and trained for these meets. We did a nice job as we prepare for the Big South Conference meet next week."
There were many highlights this weekend and one of the top moments was junior Brandon Hamilton winning the 400 meter hurdles developmental race. He won his heat and the race in a time of 56.62.
"That's the third fastest time we've had in that race and it was new PR for Brandon," said Duncan. "He has gotten better and better with each week and ran very aggressive on Saturday."
Taylor Little crushed a school record in the 5000 meters. He finished 12th in a very difficult field with a time of 14:19. The previous school record was 14:36.
Senior Root Kirbach tied a school record in the 10,000 meters at 31:08. He finished in 16th place. Troy Young came in 11th in the javelin with a throw of 51.90.
Junior Joel Quirk set a personal best in the 800 meters at 2:11.
At North Carolina A&T, K.C. Radford led the way for the Bulldogs in the pole vault with a jump of 3.60 meters. Daniel Corriher took eighth place in the shot put (13.13). Omar Ahmad finished in 16th place in the long jump (6.00).
Asheville had four runners compete in the 400 meters. Dane Corriher came in 23rd (51.14), Matt Holman 26th (51.80), Galen Goodrum in 33rd (54.13) and Duane Stepp in 35th (55.43).
On the women's side, Ingrid Allstaedt had an excellent meet as she came in fourth in the 1500 at a time of 4:45. She took 15th in the 800 meters at 2:22.
In the 1500 meters, the Bulldogs had solid results from Liza Duncan (4:59), Sara Huckbody (5:04) and Ashleigh Spencer (5:26).
Emily Mase battled a tough field in the 5000 meters and finished with a time of 18:02.
Corrie Trotter finished in a time for fourth place in the high jump at North Carolina A&T at 1.55 meters.
The Bulldogs participate next at the Clemson Invitational this weekend.
