ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field squad will take part in the Duke Relays this Friday and Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium on the campus of Duke University.
The Bulldogs are coming off a solid performance at the Western Carolina Invitational last weekend. Head Coach Dean Duncan rested some key Asheville performers at Western Carolina but everyone will run this weekend.
"We had a good effort at Western Carolina from everyone who competed," stated Duncan. "We're looking forward to going to Duke. It's one of the top meets in the country and there will be some outstanding competition. We rested a few people at Western Carolina but this weekend will be a different story as we'll have everyone ready to compete."
The Bulldog women's track and field team has been led this year by freshman sprinter Natalie Pearson. Pearson won both the 100 meters and 200 meters at WCU. Duncan is also looking to get some good results from his distance team as Ingrid Allstaedt took a second place finish in the 1500 meters last Saturday. Junior Emily Mase will be looking to continue her good season.
On the men's side, senior distance runner Taylor Little sat out last week but will run at Duke in the 1500 meters. He won the 1500 at the Charlotte Relays and took home fifth at the Wake Forest Open two weeks ago.
Senior Troy Young had a good meet last week at WCU with a second place finish in the javelin.
The Bulldogs are gearing up for the Big South Conference meet in two weeks at Liberty.
"We want to be at our best at the Big South Conference meet," explained Duncan. "We're hopeful that this meet at Duke will help prepare us for two weeks from now."
