ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville Track and Field season will officially kick off Saturday morning at the Holmes Center on the campus of Appalachian State University. The Bulldogs will compete in the Appalachian State Invitational on Saturday.

First-year coach Jesse Norman has been working his squad out hard over the past few weeks. Norman is looking forward to seeing his first track and field team perform on Saturday. This meet will be the lone one in December. The Bulldogs will compete again on Jan. 12 in Chapel Hill.

“Our work ethic has been very good, and we're just anxious to go to a meet and compete,” commented Norman. “We won't take a full squad up to Boone but it will be good to see where we stand and what we have to work on in January when we get back.”

The UNC Asheville women's team this year should be led by sprinter Natalie Pearson. Pearson set school records in every sprint event she entered last year. She was the Big South Rookie of the Year for Indoor Track and Field last February.

On the men's side, senior Omar Ahmad continues to get better each year in the triple jump and long jump. He should get points for the Bulldogs this year in every meet. Senior Brandon Hamilton earned a fourth-place finish at the Big South Outdoor Meet in the 400-High Hurdles.
