Men's Soccer Plays Liberty on Thursday at 4 p.m.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will head to the Big South Conference Tournament this week as the seventh seed and battle second-seeded Liberty at the Winthrop Soccer Complex Thursday afternoon starting at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs (4-11-1) have won two straight after going through an agonizing season up to that point. Asheville edged App State on the road last Sunday, 2-1 before putting it all together on Wednesday and romping past Gardner-Webb, 4-0.

Asheville's last lost was a 2-0 defeat to Liberty back on Oct. 18. The Bulldogs played very well in stretches of that match before falling to the Flames.

“We're playing better as of late and thankfully we're finally putting the ball into the back of the net when we have opportunities to score,” stated UNC Asheville coach Steve Cornish. “However, we have a tough task in front of with Liberty. Our lads will have to be even better than they've been lately to get a result against a talented and well-coached Liberty squad.”

The Bulldogs are being led in scoring by junior forward Scott Szymanski. Szymanski has eight goals and 18 points. He has scored in two straight games.
