UNC Asheville Volleyball to Take on High Point Thursday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville volleyball team will be the sixth seed in this week's upcoming Big South Conference Tournament to be held at the Vines Center at Liberty University. The Bulldogs will take on third-seeded High Point Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals starting at 4:30 p.m.

UNC Asheville finished with an 11-21 overall record during the regular season but is playing its best volleyball of the year. Asheville has won five of its last seven matches going into the tournament and won two tough matches this past week with a five-game win at USC Upstate on Thursday and then a four-game victory over Presbyterian Saturday afternoon.

“We're playing better and this is the time to play well when you're preparing to play in the conference tournament,” stated UNC Asheville coach Julie Torbett. “We have a tough challenge in front of us in High Point.”

The Panthers are enjoying a record-breaking season this year and enter the tourney with a 24-8 overall record. HPU beat Asheville in two four-game matches during the year.

“We had chances in both matches but High Point always made the key plays to win the match,” commented Torbett. “We're going to have to be at our best in all phases of the

game to have a chance to win on Thursday.”

Match 1: No. 2 Winthrop vs. No. 7 Charleston, 2:00 pm ET
Match 2: No. 3 High Point vs. No. 6 UNC Asheville, 4:30 pm ET
Match 3: No. 4 Coastal Carolina vs. No. 5 Radford, 7:00 pm ET

Friday, Nov. 16
Semifinal 1: No. Liberty vs Match 3 winner, 4:30 pm ET
Semifinal 2: Match 1 winner vs Match 2 winner, 7:00 pm ET

Saturday, Nov. 17
Championship ? 4:00 pm (ET)
