ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team will be at home this weekend with two Big South Conference matches. The Bulldogs host Radford Friday night at 7 p.m., followed by a match with league-leading Liberty Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The matches can be seen via video-streaming at www.uncabulldogs.com or www.bigsouthsports.com for a small fee.
UNC Asheville (8-20, 1-9 BSC) has won two of its last three matches going into this weekend's action. The Bulldogs will try to avenge earlier losses to Radford and Liberty.
"We're playing better but we need to keep improving," stated UNC Asheville coach Julie Torbett. "We didn't pass the ball very well in our last match (a 3-1 loss to Coastal Carolina) and gave up way too many service aces (15). We'll need to play better in that area this weekend."
Freshman Kelsey Benorden continues to have a solid rookie year as she leads the team in kills with a 3.91 per game average. Sophomore Alysha Greer has 20 kills against Coastal Carolina and has played well recently. She is averaging 2.94 kills per game, second best on the team.
Torbett knows the Bulldogs will be challenged this weekend.
"We lost a close match to Radford earlier this year but they have a good team," stated Torbett. "Liberty just beat Winthrop and it was Winthrop's first league loss since 2003. They have a very good club and are playing quite well right now. We're going to have to be at our best this weekend."
