Harmon Takes First in the Mile at Liberty

Both Cross Country Teams Finish in 5th Place at WCU

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams both finished in fifth place Friday night at the Western Carolina Open.

The Bulldog men finished with 134 points, just behind Gardner-Webb and in front of Milligan and Western Carolina. They were led by senior Jon Harmon who finished with a time of 19:59 and in eighth place.

Freshman Keegan Peterson came in 25th place with a time of 21:51. Andrew Burnette finished in 29th place at a time of 22:05. Joe Quirk was next for Asheville as he came in 32nd place with a time of 22:10. Freshman Duane Stepp took 40th place at 23:29.

"I thought our men did a solid job on Friday," stated Bulldog coach Dean Duncan. "We competed pretty well and had excellent performances from Jon Harmon and Keegan Peterson."

The women finished with 105 points, just behind Gardner-Webb and in front of Western Carolina. Junior Emily Mase was the top Bulldog runner on the day with a 13th place finish at a time of 15:09.

Sophomore Erika Walker came in 21st at a time of 15:53, while junior Ingrid Allstaedt was right behind her in 22nd place with a time of 15:57. Elizabeth Duncan took 23rd at 16:04. Freshman Katie Olert came in 26th spot at 16:32.

"Emily and Erika ran well on Friday," commented Duncan. "We're improving each week and looking forward to the rest of the season."
