ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country squads will compete in the Catamount Classic Friday afternoon at Western Carolina starting at 5 p.m.
Both Asheville teams are coming off impressive performances in the Bulldog Invitational last weekend. The UNC Asheville men's and women's team each won their meet as the Bulldogs hosted a cross country meet for the first time in 12 years. Senior Jonathan Harmon captured first place in the men's meet for the Bulldogs, while junior Emily Mase took first in the women's meet.
"It was a lot of fun hosting a meet last weekend, and I think our kids really enjoyed running in front of their friends," stated Asheville coach Dean Duncan. "I thought both teams ran quite well that day."
In addition to the host Catamounts, schools scheduled to compete include Georgia, Gardner-Webb, East Tennessee State, Milligan College and Appalachian State.
"This should be a really good meet for our teams to compete in," commented Duncan. "We're going to be going against some strong competition but its competition that should make us better."
