Harmon Takes 5th at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams participated in the Winthrop Invitational Saturday morning. The Bulldog men's squad was led by Jonathan Harmon who took home a fifth place finish in the prestigious meet.
The men's team finished in 8th place with 211 points. Harmon ran the 6K course in a time of 18:45. Freshman Keegan Peterson took 48th as he finished at a time of 20:47. Adam Matthews and Joe Quirk both finished with the same time of 20:51 with Matthews taking 51st and Quirk right behind him at 52nd. Andrew Burnette came in 55th at 21:10. Freshman Duane Stepp rounded out Asheville's contingent at 65th with a time of 22:30.
The UNC Asheville women's team finished in 6th place with 146 points. Emily Mase led the way for the Bulldog harriers. She finished in 15th place at 15:17 over the 4K course. Junior Ingrid Allstaedt came in 17th place with a time of 15:24. Liza Duncan took 37th at 15:57. Duncan was followed closely by Katie Olert (15:58) and Sara Huckbody (16:03). Erika Walker came in 43rd spot at a time of 16:14. Freshman Ashleigh Spencer was behind Walker, also at 16:14 and claimed 44th place.
Both teams will take the week off and begin preparations for the Big South Conference Meet at Charleston Southern on Oct. 28.
