CLEMSON, S.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's Indoor Track and Field squads will be in action this weekend at the Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field championships at the Clemson Indoor Track Facility.
Bulldog coach Dean Duncan is looking forward to seeing his teams compete on Saturday and Sunday.
"We've made a lot of progress over the year, and we're excited about competing against the rest of the Big South Conference this weekend," stated Duncan. "I think our women's team has a chance to crack into the top four if we have a great meet. Our men's team will have a little tougher time because the conference is so good. However, we have some individuals who have a chance for some success."
On the women's side, the Bulldogs have been led this year by freshmen sprinters Natalie Pearson and Katharina Risenberg. Pearson has set school records in the 55 and 200, while Risenberg has set milestones in the 400. Pearson was named Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs should be strong in the distance events with Emily Mase and Ingrid Allstaedt. Mase won the mile event at Appalachian State last week.
On the men's side, Taylor Little has enjoyed a great deal of success this indoor season in the mile. He won his last race at Appalachian State by more than eight seconds.
