LEXINGTON, VA. - Freshman sprinter Natalie Pearson set another school record and won her first event as a Bulldog to highlight the UNC Asheville Indoor Track and Field squad's performance at the VMI Relays on Saturday.

The Bulldogs took only a partial squad to VMI but head coach Dean Duncan was pleased with how his teams performed.

"I was really pleased with how our team competed today," stated Duncan. "We did a nice job improving from last week at East Tennessee State. We didn't bring our distance runners and some of our middle distance folks but the people we did bring all did a solid job."

Pearson set a school record in the 55 meters and finished in first place in the event. Another highlight for the women's team was the performance of Carrie Trotter. She finished in third place in the high jump.

"I'm really happy with how Natalie did today," said Duncan. "She's only going to get better with more practice and more experience."

On the men's side, Omar Ahmad took a fifth place finish in the long jump. Brandon Hamilton did a good job in the 55 meters with a fifth place finish, too.

"Omar and Brandon did a good job getting to the finals of their events," commented Duncan.

The Bulldogs are back in action this Thursday evening when they compete at the Appalachian State Relays.
