JOHNSON CITY, TENN. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's Indoor Track and Field squad participated in the Niswonger Foundation Invitational Friday and Saturday at East Tennessee State University.

The Bulldogs had several good performances this weekend. They were led by distance runner Taylor Little in the 3000. Little finished in second place with a school-record time of 8:24.39. He held the previous mark of 8:28, bettering the record by more than four seconds.

"I was really happy with the way Taylor Little performed," stated UNC Asheville coach Dean Duncan. "He ran a great race against a top-notch field."

Other highlights included Andrew Burnette in the 800. Burnette finished in 16th place against a strong field at a time of 2:00.50.

Omar Ahmad placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.11 meters. He also took a 12th place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 12.57 meters.

On the women's side, Emily Mase led the Bulldog effort with a sixth-place finish in the 3000 meters. Mase ran the course at a time of 10:41.

Freshman Natalie Pearson enjoyed a solid day in the sprints. She set a school record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.79, shattering the previous school mark by more than two seconds. She added a personal best time of 25.50 in the 200 meters.

Freshman Katharina Riesenberg had a solid effort in the 400 with a time of 59.56.

Duncan was also pleased with the efforts of Elizabeth Duncan and Sara Huckbody in the mile. Elizabeth Duncan finished 21st with a time of 5:41, while Huckbody was right behind her in 22nd at a time 5:42.

"We had some good performances and it wasn't a bad effort for our first meet," declared Duncan. "We'll try to build on this weekend and get better for the next meet."

The Bulldogs are in action against this weekend starting this Friday at the VMI Invitational.
