ASHEVILLE, N.C. UNC Asheville sophomore defender Edwin Wotortsi earned a spot on the third team of the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region team. The NSCAA released the teams today. It marked the first time a UNC Asheville men's soccer player had earned this award since forward Kane Lawson made the third time after the 2000 season.
Wotorsi started in each of UNC Asheville's 17 matches this year and helped the Bulldog program improve a great deal in the 2006 season. Asheville won five matches, after only winning two the previous year. Wotortsi led a Bulldog backline that cut its goals against from 45 in 2005 to 30 in 2006. He earned second team all-conference honors as he scored a goal and added two assists on the year.
"I'm very please for Edwin to receive this honor," stated Asheville coach Steve Cornish. "He did a great job for us this year in the back and was a key reason we were so much better this year. The great thing about Edwin is that he has two more years playing for UNC Asheville. He's a lad who is only going to get better."
