ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Head Volleyball Coach Julie Torbett has announced the signing of Emily Palma and Kaitlyn McDaniel to scholarships to play volleyball for the Bulldogs in the fall.
Palma is a 6-3 outside hitter from Madison, Ala. She was an all-area and all-state player in 2005 for Bob Jones High School. Her club team, NASA Juniors, won 2003 and 2005 region titles while being ranked 11th in the nation in 2004 and 23rd in the country in 2005. She was voted the best offensive player on her team in 2004 and earned 2005 1st-Team All-State honors.
McDaniel is a 5-5 setter from Huntsville, Ala., where she played on the same NASA Juniors club team as Palma. The club also produced former Bulldog players Rose Butler, Amanda Wiles, and Talia Ogle. McDaniel was tabbed All-City, All-Area, and All-State in both 2004 and 2005 for Grissom High School. In 2003, she led Grissom to the Alabama State Championship and was state runner up in both 2004 and 2005.
"We are excited about getting both Emily and Kaitlyn to come to Asheville," said Torbett. "They come from a successful club program in Alabama that we are familiar with. Both players are use to winning and bring a lot of skill into our program at a young age."
