ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Elif Unlu is this week's Merrimon Galleries UNC Asheville Student-Athlete of the Week. She helped the Bulldogs to a 3-0 week while earning Big South Co-Player of the Week honors.
Unlu, a junior from Izmir, Turkey, went over the 1,000 dig milestone this week making her the ninth Bulldog player to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career. She helped UNC Asheville clinch the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Big South Tournament posting two double-doubles on the week, recording 16 kills and 15 digs against East Tennessee State on Nov. 1, followed by 19 kills and 11 digs against Radford on Nov. 4. Against Liberty on Nov. 6, Unlu notched 15 kills and eight digs. For the week, she registered 50 kills (4.55 per game), a .355 hitting percentage, 34 digs, six blocks, six aces and four assists.
The Bulldogs are 21-6 on the season and will travel to Western Carolina on Thursday. Asheville will be back home on Saturday for Senior Day as the 'Dogs wrap up the regular season against Birmingham-Southern.
