What is Mental Health?
Mental health is our emotional, psychological and social well-being. Our mental health affects how we think, feel and act. Our mental well-being can be looked at as a spectrum. Throughout our lifetime or even throughout the day our mental health can fluctuate along this spectrum!Â
What can move us along this mental health spectrum?
Different life events, personal stressors and situations!
For example:
- A hard week at practice
- Being yelled at by a coach
- Family hardships
- Problems with relationships
- Injury
- Lack of Playing Time
Why Does Mental Health Matter?Â
Mental health impacts every aspect of our lives!
It affects our:Â
- Thoughts
- Actions
- Feelings
- Abilities
- Physical Capabilities
Our minds are extremely important in regards to how we handle stressors, how we can relate to others and how we tend to make decisions. Mental health can determine performance in sport, and performance in academia. Mental health along with physical health is the foundation for all that you want to do so it is important to take the time, resources and energy to take care of it every single day.Â
