Transfer Policy

UNC Asheville Athletics Transfer Policy


A student wanting to be placed in the transfer portal must follow the designated procedure.

  1. The Student Athlete must contact either their head coach and the Director of Athletics.
  2. Following the communication with the student-athlete, it is the responsibility of the head coach or the Director of Athletics to first notify the other party and then notify the Compliance Office of the student’s desire to be entered in the portal within 24 hours of speaking to the student.
  3. In conjunction with a required educational call with the compliance office, the student will assign the Transfer Portal Request form in ARMS.
  4. The student must complete all questions on the form.  When the form is submitted, the compliance office will have two business days to put the student-athlete in the transfer portal.

 
Student-Athletes who put themselves in the transfer portal may be denied any or all of these services and benefits.

  1. Athletics Financial Aid beginning the following semester.
  2. A roster spot
  3. Assess to athletics department facilities to include courts, fields, and practice equipment
  4. Use of the team locker room
  5. Access to the Strength and Conditioning room and coaching staff
  6. All other student-athlete specific offerings, such as the end of the year awards banquet or Life Skills programming.

Student-Athletes who put themselves in the transfer portal may NOT be denied access to:

  1. Academic Resources and Counseling
  2. Medical Treatment needed as a result of injuries that took place during participation in intercollegiate athletics. After the student goes into the transfer portal, the student is not eligible for any use of the athletic training room, personnel, secondary insurance, or modalities for any injuries that had not previously been documented by an athletic trainer.

 
A student-athlete may remove himself or herself from the database at any time by emailing the Compliance Office and copying the Head Coach and Athletics Director. However, being removed from the portal does not guarantee reinstatement of any of the above services.
