Women's Basketball Team Active in Community

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- While most UNC Asheville students have spent the last month away from campus enjoying the holidays weith their families, the women's basketball team has been busy in the Asheville community spreading holiday cheer.

The Bulldogs played five games over the break but had time when they were not on the court to spend two nights at the Western North Carolina Rescue Ministries helping to provide food for the homeless and hosted a basketball clinic to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"We feel that it is important to support the community that supports us," said head coach Betsy Blose. Last March, the City of Asheville supported the Big South Women's Basketball Tournament and we were able to play well enough to win. This is our chance to say thank you. Our players enjoy being out in the community and being good citizens and I am proud that they are so willing to give their time."

The Bulldogs served meals on Dec. 13, and Dec. 20. On Jan. 12, the team held a clinic for more than 70 area kids a the Justice Center. The kids learned to shoot, dribble, and learn more about basketball. All proceeds went to the Make-A -Wish Foundation on behalf of the UNC Asheville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
