UNC Asheville Unveils New-Look Logo and Brand
06.03.2025 | General, Athletics News
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Athletics has unveiled a new-look logo and brand for the Bulldogs, announced today (Tuesday, June 3) by the athletic department.
The updated visual identity gives the Bulldogs a refreshed look while also elevating the consistency of the brand across all platforms.
"This is a landmark day for Bulldog Athletics as we proudly introduce our revitalized logo and brand," stated Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. "This new logo not only enhances our department's image, but it also embodies our commitment to "Dream Bigger. Achieve More."
Working in partnership with JL Designs, the process took 10 months amidst the recovery from Hurricane Helene. The committee decided on three key words when establishing the new logo and brand: versatility, boldness and classic. The refreshed branding includes five different logos to be used in a multitude of ways across the department. The updates include the separation of the Bulldog icon and the A letter mark most Asheville fans are accustomed to.
Additionally, an AVL letter mark, an UNC Asheville word mark and a combination logo of the Bulldog icon, UNC Asheville and the mountain range of the Blue Ridge Mountains can be found in the logo rotation. To ensure consistency, a digital brand standards platform was also created to guide uniform/jersey applications across all sports, traditional marketing usage, color and typography options and overall brand guidance.
"This was an incredibly exciting project to work on," said Jamie Legg of JL Designs. "The UNC Asheville athletic staff and logo committee members were easy to work with and provided great feedback, which allowed us to hone in on new brand marks that embody the strength, resilience and pride of the Asheville community and UNC Asheville athletics."
Â

The Bulldog icon will service as the primary logo for UNC Asheville Athletics. Using elements from past bulldog logos, such as the ears, the new bulldog features a closed mouth creating a more serious persona.
Â

Â
The "A" lettermark, now separated from the Bulldog, highlights both the French Broad River and the Swannanoa River, which flow directly through Asheville. Additionally, the inside point of the "A" is to showcase the Blue Ridge Mountains that Asheville is nestled in the middle of.
Â

This new combination logo showcases the wordmark and the Bulldog icon mark you will see from the athletics department going forward. While the UNC Asheville logo incorporates the "A" into the words, the addition of the mountains behind the marks continues to pay homage to Asheville's surroundings.
UNC Asheville Athletics new brand guide can be found here.
Apparel and merchandise featuring the new brand is now available at the Campus Bookstore or online. Additional products featuring the new visual brand identity will continue to be released throughout the year.
