07.28.2022 | Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Going to camp is one of the summertime staples for youngsters across the country. Right here in Asheville is no different as several of the UNC Asheville Athletic teams offer summer camps for a variety of ages. In this episode of the 'Dogs Day Out' Summer Series, we give a behind-the-scenes look at the youth camp put on by our men's and women's soccer teams.

Featured in this episode are two assistant coaches with special ties to UNC Asheville soccer in Bella Iorio and Joe LaCasto. Both coaches are 2019 graduates of UNC Asheville so they know the impact that camps can have on the attendees.

"A goal for each coaching staff was to bring kids into the Asheville area," Iorio said. "We definitely want to build that connection with the community, while giving them an opportunity to bring them into our atmosphere."

LaCasto, a former captain of the Bulldog men's soccer team, echoes Iorio's sentiments.

"It's good to have both programs represented at these camps," Assistant Men's Soccer Coach Joe LaCasto said of the opportunities that camps provide. "It shows them that there's Division I soccer teams right here in Asheville for them to come out and support."
