Jay Bilas to headline UNC Asheville’s “Celebration on the Court” presented by Kimmel & Associates

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Athletics Department will host its inaugural "Celebration on the Court" presented by Kimmel & Associates on Thursday, October 21, with ESPN College Basketball Analyst Jay Bilas serving as the keynote speaker.

The dinner event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. on the court at UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena, will tip-off the 2021-22 Bulldog men's and women's basketball seasons and is part of the semester's celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Wilma M. Sherrill Center and Kimmel Arena, which opened on November 13, 2011, when men's basketball took on the North Carolina Tar Heels. Proceeds from the Celebration on the Court will support UNC Asheville student-athletes.

Bilas, who has been with ESPN since 1995, is a six-time Emmy nominee (Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Analyst (2007, 2008, and 2020) and Outstanding Sports Personality – Event Analyst (2016, 2017, and 2019). Bilas' coverage on the network includes: College GameDay, broadcast analyst, studio coverage and NBA Draft coverage, among others. Prior to his role(s) at ESPN, many know Bilas from his days at Duke University, where he helped the Blue Devils advance to the National Championship both as a player in 1986 before the school captured back-to-back National Championships in 1991 and 1992 with Bilas serving as an assistant to Mike Krzyzewski. Earning his law degree from Duke Law School, Bilas has been an attorney with the law firm of Moore & Van Allen, PLLC, since 1992. A San Pedro, California, native, Bilas currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with his wife Wendy.

In addition to Bilas, both Mike Morrell and Honey Brown, head coaches of UNC Asheville men's and women's basketball, respectively, will share their thoughts on the upcoming season along with a question and answer session featuring players from the men's and women's basketball programs.

A ticket to the event ($150) will include a catered meal and beverages throughout the program. Children 12 and over are welcome to attend the celebration, while children under 12 can look forward to being our featured guests at one home game during the upcoming season with a special autograph session from the current Bulldog players. Corporate tables are available for $1,500 and will include seating for seven attendees plus a UNC Asheville Bulldog coach or player.
