BIRMINGHAM. Ala. - Alysha Greer had 18 kills and Raquel Miotto had a season-high 43 digs to lead UNC Asheville to a five-game victory 30-27, 27-30, 15-30, 30-28, 15-12 over Birmingham-Southern Saturday afternoon. The victory gives the Bulldogs the number two seed in this week's Big South Volleyball Tournament.

Greer led the way with 18 kills on a season-high 52 swings. She hit .231 as the Bulldogs (13-17, 10-4 Big South) played their second-straight match without All-American Elif Unlu. Ashley Wrightenberry had 12 kills while Lauren Ficker and Emily Palma each had nine kills.

Birmingham-Southern (11-16, 8-6 Big South) had four players in double-figures led by a match-high 23 kills and 16 digs from Sarah Harris. Casey Demos had 16 kills, Michelle Maciejewski had 16 kills and 23 digs, while Morgan Anderson had 14 kills and 13 digs. Alex Norton had 30 digs for the Panthers who out-hit and out-dug the Bulldogs in the match.

Asheville had 10 team blocks as Wrightenberry and Heather Burns each had five blocks. Ficker added four more blocks.

Game one was tied at 27-27. Wrightenberry, Greer, and Burns each had kills to give the Dogs the 30-27 victory. Both teams hit well in the second game but the Panthers took the win on a kills by Anderson.

The Bulldogs hit negative in game three with nine kills and 11 errors. BSC built a 13-1 lead and cruised to the victory. In game four, it was BSC that struggled hitting. The Panthers hit .015 in the fourth game.

Asheville jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the deciding fifth game. BSC tied came back to tie the game at 10-10. A service ace by Kaitlyn McDaniel and an attack error gave the Dogs a two-point lead. It remained a two-point game until 14-12 when Greer put down match points to give the Bulldogs the victory.

The Big South Tournament begins on Tuesday with the first round beginning at campus sites. Asheville will host the #7 seed Radford in a 5 p.m. match at the Justice Center. Birmingham Southern earns the #4 seed and will host #5 seed High Point.
