Box Score

CHARLESTON, S.C. - UNC Asheville placed five hitters in double figures led by 17 kills from both Elif Unlu and Alysha Greer on way to a four-game victory (30-25, 31-33, 30-21, 30-21) over Charleston Southern on Friday night.

Unlu, the two-time reigning Big South Player of the Week, had 17 kills and 18 digs for her conference leading 19th double-double. Greer recorded double-figure kills for the fourth time in her last five matches. Her 17 kills were the second highest of the season for the freshman.

Ashley Wrightenberry had 14 kills and Lauren Ficker and Emily Palma each recorded 10 kills for the Bulldogs who improved to 12-15 overall and 9-3 in the Big South. Asheville also guarantees itself a top four finish and first round home match in the Big South Tournament.

Raquel Miotto had a match-high 31 digs marking the third time this season she has posted more than 30 digs in a match.

Charleston Southern (7-19, 1-11 Big South) was led by Jenni Shepherd with a match-high 19 kills and 14 digs. Jill Worby chipped in 12 kills and 15 digs.

Asheville led the whole way in game one, winning easily at 30-25. Game two turned into a thriller with CSU leading the majority of the way before the Bulldogs tied it at 29-29. The two teams would continue to battle to a 31-31 tie until a kill put the Lady Bucs up for good.

In game three, the two teams were tied at 14-14 before Asheville went on a 7-0 run. The Bulldogs would keep their lead, taking a 30-21 victory in game three, holding a 2-1 advantage in the match.

The Bulldogs would carry that momentum into game four, scoring the first three points and never trailing. Despite a couple of furious comebacks by CSU to close the gap, Asheville would hold on to take game four 30-21.

Asheville will travel to face Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 6 p.m. while CSU will host Birmingham-Southern.
