UNC Asheville is coming off an 8-12 season where it only lost a few starters from last year. Of the eight goal scorers from last year, six of them return to Asheville. Caroline Houser accumulated 14 points to lead the team while Courtney Naber netted four goals in 14 games for the Bulldogs last season.
Junior goalkeeper Maddie Getz returns for the Bulldogs after playing over 200 minutes in goal last year. She will have company in goal as freshman Bryson Lee looks to earn starting minutes for UNC Asheville. Last year Getz posted a 1.73 goals against average including nine saves.
Recent History and Scouting Western Carolina
Asheville will face a familiar opponent as it hosts Western Carolina on Tuesday. The two teams have met once in each of the last three seasons with the Bulldogs winning the most recent matchup. Paige Trent recorded a pair of assists including assisting Courtney Naber's go-ahead goal for the Bulldogs in the 49th minute.
UNC Asheville has been shut out in two of the last three matchups with Western Carolina, but the Bulldogs hope to pick up where they left off last year.
The Catamounts return their top goal scorers in Sayres McKenna and Kasey Couch. The duo each scored six goals last year with McKenna also tallying six assists. In 2016, Western Carolina was out-scored 32-26 in 20 matches (1.57 goals allowed average).
