Bulldogs Pick Up Impressive Win at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C.—The UNC Asheville women's tennis team earned their first ever victory over Campbell in a tough 4-3 battle at the Nisbet Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
Asheville jumped to the early lead by winning the doubles competition. The No. 1 pairing of Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley defeated Lea Cutura and Pauline Roustan, 6-3. On court No. 2 Hunter Hall and Lauren Watson-Steele clinched the doubles point for the Bulldogs with a 6-0 blanking of Alexandra Nicoara and Isabel Boada. Campbell took the No. 3 doubles slot with Alexandra Andrivot and Georgina Segarra's 6-2 win over Christin Louw and Emily Sidor.
Campbell evened the odds when No. 1 seeded Andrivot defeated Francisco, 6-3, 6-0. Asheville would then regain the lead with No. 2 Watson-Steel's 7-6 (6), 6-4, defeat over Cutura. No. 3 Shipley then downed Roustan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Campbell would take court No. 4 when Louw fell to Nicoara, 6-3, 6-3. Again Campbell tied the match when No. 5 Hall fell to Boada, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 0-6. The Bulldogs would take the match when freshman Sidor won a thrilling three-setter over Asanin, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
BULLDOG BITES
CONTINUING STRONG PLAY: Emily Sidor was named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week last week for her performances in matches played Feb. 13-19. The freshman continued her strong start to her collegiate career with an exciting three-set victory at the No. 6 singles position Saturday. Sidor is now 6-1 on the season in singles play and 3-2 in doubles competition.
GOING THE DISTANCE: Sophomore Kylee Shipley has shown her resiliency this year as six of her 12 matches have gone a full three sets. Shipley is not only 9-3 on the season in singles play, but 5-1 in matches that have gone the full three sets.
UP NEXTÂ
Following this weekend's competition, the Bulldogs will travel to Boiling Spring, N.C. on Tuesday, March 7, to face the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs. The start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
