ASHEVILLE, N.C.—UNC Asheville right-handed pitcher Alan DeRatt continues to lead the nation in ERA for the second week in a row and the third week this season. DeRatt’s 1.15 ERA is ahead of Bethune-Cookman’s Hiram Burgos (1.29) and UC Irvine’s Christian Bergman (1.41).
DeRatt is tied for the Big South lead in wins with a 7-2 record. The Cary, N.C., native is tied for sixth nationally with 12 starts. The Dogs are 8-4 in games which DeRatt has started this season.
In his last start on Wednesday, April 30, at UNC Greensboro, DeRatt recorded the victory throwing six innings surpassing the Asheville career record for most innings pitched and allowing just two unearned runs. He has now thrown 346 innings in four years at Asheville passing Steven Cook who threw 341.1 innings from 2001-04. He is three wins shy of the career wins record held by Aaron Rembert (2000-04) and is 10 strikeouts shy of the career strike out record currently held by Josh White (1996-99).
DeRatt has thrown 78.1 innings this season and has allowed just 10 earned runs. He has 50 strikeouts and 27 walks. Opponents are hitting .195 against him for the season.
DeRatt’s next start will be on Friday, May 9, as the Bulldogs host Charleston Southern in a 3 p.m. at Greenwood Field.
